Academician Ge Junbo Elected President-Elect of the World Heart Federation
On Oct. 10, 2026 (Beijing time), at the 2026 World Congress of Cardiology held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the World Heart Federation announced the results of its new presidential election. Ge Junbo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Department of Cardiology at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, was elected President-Elect of the World Heart Federation by a vote of member organizations worldwide, with a term running from 2027 to 2028.
This is the first time a scholar from the Chinese mainland has taken a core governance post in the field of global cardiovascular health, marking the formal and deep integration of China's cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment experience and Chinese medical solutions into the global health governance system. Ge has long promoted the standardized, regionally coordinated emergency model represented by chest pain centers across China, and has gradually offered a replicable practical model to countries and regions with limited medical resources. After his election he put forward the governing philosophy of healthy hearts for all, from commitment to practice, and will next focus on ensuring that quality cardiovascular services are not limited by differences in country, region or economic conditions.
