Renji Hospital Clinches Two First Prizes at Shanghai Science and Technology Awards

On July 2, the results of the 2026 Shanghai Science and Technology Awards were announced, with Renji Hospital winning two first prizes as the lead completing institution. The project "Development and Clinical Application of Precision Diagnosis and Treatment Technologies for Acute Myocardial Infarction," led by Professor Bu Jun, received the Shanghai Scientific and Technological Progress Award (First Prize). The team conducted original research on identifying high-risk coronary plaques, assessing myocardial injury, and population-level risk prevention and control.

The work has yielded 42 invention patents and one clinical trial approval for a national Class 1 new drug, and its findings have been incorporated into international internal medicine textbooks, World Health Organization health documents, and 12 international clinical guidelines. The project "Molecular Basis and Translational Research on Novel Therapeutic Strategies for Liver Cancer," led by researcher Qin Wenxin, received the Shanghai Natural Science Award (First Prize). The team identified EGFR as a key target underlying lenvatinib resistance and proposed a new combination therapy, while also discovering the entirely novel target DKK1, which has now advanced into a global clinical trial.
