Shanghai Ninth Hospital's AI Early Screening and Follow-Up Project for Pediatric Eye Disease Wins Third Prize at First National Digital Health Competition

On August 28, the finals of the First National Digital Health Competition concluded in Beijing. "My Eye Space - AI Early Screening and Long-Term Follow-Up System for Pediatric Eye Diseases," submitted by Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital together with Shanghai Children's Medical Center, the Hospital Development Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and China Unicom (Shanghai) Industrial Internet Co., Ltd., won a national third prize. Hosted by the National Health Commission, the competition attracted 5,626 entries, of which only 36 advanced to the finals.

The first prize was left vacant, leaving an overall award rate of just 0.64%. The project is led by Li Lin, chief physician of the Department of Ophthalmology, jointly with Professor Zhou Huifang of Shanghai Children's Medical Center. Covering the entire workflow of screening, identification, management and follow-up, the system reduces screening time per child from 10 minutes to 30 seconds.

Its results have been applied at scale in more than 30 kindergartens and primary and secondary schools across the country, extending to Yunnan, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and other regions.
