Huadong Hospital's Wei Ye Named a 2026 Shanghai Medical Craftsman
The results of the 2026 Shanghai Medical Craftsman recognition program have been published, and Wei Ye, director of the general surgery department at Huadong Hospital, has been named a Shanghai Medical Craftsman. A long-standing specialist in colorectal cancer surgery, Wei was among the first experts in China to complete 1,000 robotic rectal cancer procedures and serves as chairman of the Shanghai NOSES Alliance. He travels across the country giving surgical demonstrations and academic lectures, and provides regular free online consultations through a telemedicine platform, with more than a thousand online consultation cases to date.
He pioneered an "assessment-surgery-conversion-management" multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment model, led cross-departmental joint clinics and formulated more than 200 standardized treatment protocols. He has published over 40 SCI papers, with several appearing in top journals such as JAMA, The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Annals of Surgery; a novel targeted therapy concept proposed by his team has been incorporated into the US NCCN guidelines. He also helped compile China's first Guidelines for the Treatment of Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastases and completed six rounds of revision.
