Shanghai TCM Forum | Chen Xinlin: Exploring New Paths for Integrating TCM with Industry
Chen Xinlin, president of Longhua Hospital, has laid out the hospital's high-quality development path “from the clinic and back to the clinic” as a national TCM inheritance and innovation center and a candidate institution for the National Medical Center. In January 2025, construction began on the second phase of Longhua Hospital's Hangtou campus, the National Medical Center project, with a total floor area of more than 120,000 square meters; upon completion it will serve as the main body of the National Medical Center and continuously strengthen the capacity for comprehensive regional TCM services and innovation translation. Because the hospital's prized in-hospital preparations could previously be prescribed only inside the hospital, it partnered with Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Group on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to build the Longhua TCM Preparation Inheritance and Innovation Center at the Zhangjiang Pharma Valley production base, pushing in-hospital preparations beyond the hospital gate and toward new drug development.
At the same time, the hospital is deploying the TCM Formula-Syndrome Large Model across its campuses, national regional medical centers and medical consortium members, turning veteran TCM physicians' experience into a standardized, digital and intelligent diagnosis and treatment system so that high-quality TCM expertise reaches patients everywhere.
