Shanghai Children's Hospital Secures Dual Stem Cell Clinical Research Registrations for Institution and Project

Shanghai Children's Hospital has passed review by the National Health Commission and been officially granted “dual registration” as both a stem cell clinical research institution and a stem cell clinical research project. The institutional qualification marks another milestone breakthrough in the hospital's pediatric translational medicine research and platform development, providing policy support and a technical foundation for future high-standard, standardized stem cell clinical research. The approved research project is led by Qian Liling, chief physician in the Department of Respiratory Medicine, and focuses on bronchiolitis obliterans, a rare and difficult pediatric respiratory disease.

It innovatively uses airway basal stem cell technology, offering an entirely new therapeutic pathway for the condition with strong clinical innovation value and application prospects. The hospital said it will continue to optimize whole-process management and control of clinical research into new biomedical technologies, improve internal quality control and ethics review mechanisms, strengthen industry-academia-research collaborative innovation and the building of talent pipelines, and develop new medical technologies suited to children that can be translated into practice.
