Hospital Team Takes 2026 “Love of Gesang Flowers” Congenital Disease Screening Campaign to Shigatse

From April 30 to May 7, 2026, an 11-member medical team from Shanghai Children's Hospital led by Hospital President Lu Bing traveled to Shigatse in Tibet to carry out a public welfare screening program for congenital diseases. The campaign, titled “Love of Gesang Flowers,” was jointly organized by Shanghai Children's Hospital, the Shanghai group-model medical aid team to Tibet, and Shigatse People's Hospital, with support from the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Cooperation and Exchange Office, the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission and philanthropic donors. The team visited Renbu, Namling, Sa'gya, Tingri and Lhaze counties and Shigatse city, providing free screening and postoperative follow-up for local children with congenital diseases.
Overcoming the plateau environment, long journeys and continuous work, the team conducted specialist assessments and health guidance centered on early detection, early intervention and early treatment, and arranged follow-up treatment advice and referral pathways. Covering one city and five counties, the campaign served more than 670 children, with over 140 preliminarily judged to meet surgical indications.
