Seven Fudan Figures Named 2026 Shanghai Medical Craftsmen

The Shanghai Municipal Medical Workers' Union named 30 individuals as 2026 Shanghai Medical Craftsmen, seven of whom come from hospitals affiliated with Fudan University's Shanghai Medical College. Among them is Gao Qiang, director of the Department of Hepatobiliary Oncology and Liver Transplantation Surgery and assistant to the president at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. Gao is deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Genetic Regulation of Complex Traits, has been selected into the national high-level talent program and the Changjiang Scholars Program, and is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars.

Rooted in the clinical front line for more than 20 years, he personally performs over 600 hepatobiliary tumor and liver transplant operations each year. He has led his team in full-chain research running from precision subtyping to mechanism analysis and then to clinical translation, identifying new subsets of tumor-associated immune cells and new mechanisms of immune tolerance. His results have been published in top journals including Science, Nature, Cell and The New England Journal of Medicine, and he has received honors including the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of the Shanghai Natural Science Award and the New Cornerstone Science Exploration Award.
