Fudan Innovations Compete in Geneva: Novel Nuclear Medicine Probe from Shanghai Cancer Center Wins Gold Medal with Special Commendation
The 51st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva concluded in Geneva, Switzerland, drawing more than 1,000 invention projects from 35 countries and regions. Fudan University presented nine works and won four gold medals, among which the "Novel Nuclear Medicine Probe for Precision Diagnosis and Treatment of Prostate Cancer" from the team of Professor Song Shaoli at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center received the Gold Medal with Special Commendation. Targeting prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), the probe addresses pain points such as difficult early diagnosis and occult metastatic lesions.
Its diagnostic performance significantly surpasses conventional imaging, resolving the technical bottleneck in which excretion through the urinary system interferes with imaging. The agent has obtained an IND approval as a national Class I new drug and completed a Phase I clinical trial, positioning it to become China's first PSMA SPECT/CT imaging drug with independent intellectual property rights. It is now being rolled out to more than ten tertiary Grade A hospitals nationwide for clinical validation.
Both the number of Fudan entries and the number of gold medals reached record highs.
