Xinhua Hospital Fengxian Campus Performs Single-Port Thoracoscopic Bronchial Sleeve Lobectomy for High-Risk Lung Cancer Patient

The cardiothoracic surgery team led by chief physician Liang Zhigang at Xinhua Hospital's Fengxian campus has successfully performed minimally invasive surgery for a patient with central-type lung cancer who had poor pulmonary function and faced high surgical risk. It is the first single-port thoracoscopic left upper lobectomy with bronchial sleeve resection performed after neoadjuvant therapy since the Fengxian campus opened. The patient, a long-term smoker, completed three cycles of neoadjuvant drug therapy before surgery; two pulmonary function assessments both indicated severe mixed ventilatory dysfunction, posing high anesthetic and postoperative complication risks.

Under the guidance of Professor Ding Fangbao, director of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the team organized a multidisciplinary consultation and drew up a meticulous plan, precisely performing the single-port thoracoscopic left upper bronchial sleeve lobectomy — completely removing the lesion while preserving healthy lung tissue and respiratory function to the greatest extent. With close monitoring and enhanced airway management by the intensive care unit and cardiothoracic surgery teams, the patient was out of bed on postoperative day 4 and recovered well enough to be discharged on day 9.
