Nearly One Year On, Xinhua Hospital's Fengxian Campus Has Served 960,000 Visits and Eased Care Access in Outer Suburbs

Xinhua Hospital's Fengxian campus is about to mark its first anniversary. It recorded 2,253 outpatient and emergency visits on its opening day and has now served more than 960,000 patient visits, reshaping the healthcare map for residents of Shanghai's suburbs. The campus opened on June 28, 2025, ending Fengxian district's history of having no tertiary Grade A general hospital.

Today, more than 260 visits each day are to specialists at associate chief physician level or above, and national key clinical specialties — including cardiovascular medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, respiratory medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, and oncology — have all been established there. About 65% of outpatients are Fengxian residents, while roughly 25% of inpatients and surgical patients come from across the country. The campus has upgraded its “physical examination center” into a “health management center,” installed over 70 self-service terminals while retaining staffed windows, and raised daily MRI examinations from 62 at opening to 207, with most patients completing scans within two days.

A volunteer guide team speaking the Fengxian dialect has also been set up, delivering satisfaction for both staff and patients.
