Hard of Hearing, Unstable Dentures: Paper-and-Pen Communication and Free Maintenance Warm the Hearts of Elderly Patients at Xiyanghong Dental

Shanghai City Channel's Lohas Shanghai aired the real dental treatment experience of Uncle Xu, a man in his seventies. Xu had failed twice in previous denture fittings and was resistant to further treatment. At Shanghai Xiyanghong Dental Outpatient Clinic, considering his hearing difficulty, staff communicated with him by pen and paper throughout, patiently writing down precautions and the purpose of each step; during treatment, the doctor frequently paused to ask in writing how he was feeling.

For patients with limited mobility, the clinic merged a two-step treatment process into one, reducing the number of visits required. During the denture fitting, the doctor told him in advance to raise his left hand if he felt pain, and adjusted the tightness throughout based on his feedback. After the fitting, he was given detailed guidance on use and care, along with a commitment that any future denture problems would be handled free of charge.

Now Xu's dentures fit comfortably. Now I have confidence whether I go to crowded places or talk with strangers, he said. The clinic has focused on elderly patients for more than 20 years, and the oldest patient it has served was 106 years old.
