Denture Discomfort and Periodontal Problems? Xiyanghong Dental Brings Care to Senior Residents in the Community

At a free dental clinic held in an elderly community in Dachang Town, Baoshan District, Shanghai, 96-year-old Granny Duan held the hand of a doctor from Shanghai Xiyanghong Dental Hospital and thanked him repeatedly. The public welfare clinic, organized by the Xiyanghong Dental team, helped community seniors solve oral problems through popular science lectures and one-on-one diagnosis and treatment, and was reported by the News Workshop program of Shanghai News Comprehensive Channel. The medical team systematically explained periodontal care and denture maintenance and provided free oral examinations and denture adjustment advice to each person.

Granny Duan's custom-made full dentures, which cost more than 20,000 yuan, caused gum swelling and bite imbalance within less than a year of use and needed to be refitted and adjusted. Mr. Zhang, troubled by food becoming trapped between his residual teeth and his dentures, received a personalized plan.

Mr. Wang, 69, who had suffered from gum bleeding for a long time, was diagnosed with severe periodontitis. Based on each case, the doctors provided individual plans involving medication, denture reinforcement and periodontal treatment, and gave hands-on guidance on toothbrushing and denture cleaning.

Founder Shi Guoliang said the hospital will continue to make such charitable clinics a regular practice.
