Academician Fan Xianqun Elected President of the Ophthalmologists Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association

From December 18 to 21, the 19th Annual Meeting of the Ophthalmologists Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association was held in Beijing. Professor Fan Xianqun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and the leading figure in ophthalmology at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, was elected President of the Ophthalmologists Branch. As the foremost pioneer and leader of ocular plastic surgery and orbital disease in China, Fan has led his team in creating digital orbital models and virtual surgical technologies, developing orbital surgical navigation systems and establishing a new model of precision orbital surgery.

His leading research on the standardized diagnosis and treatment of ocular malignant tumors has significantly improved survival rates, eye-preservation rates and quality of life for patients with difficult conditions including retinoblastoma, uveal melanoma and sebaceous gland carcinoma of the eyelid. A total of 23 ophthalmology experts from Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital delivered special presentations at the annual meeting.
