Shuguang Hospital Lifetime Professor Shen Yuandong Honored with the 8th Cheung On Tak International Contribution Award for Chinese Medicine

The review committee of the Cheung On Tak International Contribution Award for Chinese Medicine has announced its eighth list of winners, and Shen Yuandong, lifetime professor at Shuguang Hospital, has received the honor. Funded by the Cheung On Tak Charity Foundation and based at Hong Kong Baptist University, the award recognizes outstanding individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the internationalization, standardization and academic development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) worldwide. Shen has participated in and led the work of the ISO Technical Committee on Traditional Chinese Medicine (ISO/TC 249) since 2009, serving as secretary-general and vice-chairman before being elected chairman unanimously in 2019.

Under his leadership, ISO/TC 249 has grown into a core platform for traditional medicine standard-setting with 45 participating member bodies, and has published 125 international standards for Chinese medicine. In 2025 the committee was upgraded to a technical committee for traditional medicine, with Shen continuing to serve as chairman; Professor Sang Zhen of Shuguang Hospital was meanwhile elected chair of the TCM subcommittee.
