Treating Winter Illness in Summer: Longhua Hospital's Free Health Consultation Warms the Community

As the sanfu, the hottest days of the year, approached, Longhua Hospital staged its 2026 summer health consultation under the theme “The Right Time for Treating Winter Diseases in Summer” in the lobby on the first floor of its outpatient building. Specialists from cardiology, TCM surgery, bone-setting (orthopedics and traumatology), TCM preventive care and other departments sat in a row, and mostly middle-aged and elderly residents queued in an orderly fashion for detailed consultations. A bone-setting physician bent down to examine an elderly woman's leg joints and explained how to care for joints during the sanfu period.

Dr. Zhan Chengyan from the TCM preventive care department explained the principles of sanfu plaster application and of “qingbu” tonic herbal paste for summer conditioning. Dr.

Hu Chunrui from cardiology carefully recorded elderly patients' physical condition and talked about protecting heart health and managing chronic diseases in summer. Dr. Xu Jienan from TCM surgery offered individualized external TCM treatment plans.

Display boards posted the 2026 summer tonic paste clinic schedule and specialist visit information, and many elderly visitors photographed them. One woman from Minhang district, who has long suffered from cold-sensitive lower back and legs, came specially: “Being able to talk face to face with famous TCM doctors without registering, and finally get my long-standing problems explained — it is so convenient for the public.”
