Shanghai Children's Hospital Accredited as Nation's Highest-Level Epilepsy Center
The China Anti-Epilepsy Association (CAAE) has released the results of its review of standardized epilepsy center development, and the Epilepsy Center of Shanghai Children's Hospital has passed the review and been officially accredited as a “CAAE Comprehensive Epilepsy Center” (Level 3 epilepsy center). The accreditation marks the hospital's comprehensive pediatric epilepsy diagnosis and treatment capacity entering the national advanced ranks, and represents another major breakthrough for a children's specialty hospital in Shanghai in this field. Level 3 is the highest professional certification for epilepsy centers in China, subject to dynamic review every three years, with rigid thresholds across the talent pipeline, specialty beds, long-term video electroencephalography, annual patient volume, multidisciplinary team systems, capability in epilepsy surgery and neuromodulation surgery, quality control and follow-up, and research and teaching.
Centered on pediatric neurology, the center integrates neurosurgery, neuroelectrophysiology, imaging, neurogenetics, neuropsychology, clinical pharmacy, rehabilitation and nutrition, and routinely performs long-term video EEG monitoring, SEEG evaluation, MRI-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT), epileptogenic focus resection, hemispherotomy, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) and ketogenic diet therapy.
